Near misses (The Foundation Edition)

I feel like my life has been a constant search for the perfect foundation. I have come so so close but I sometimes think i will DIE still searching for that perfect base (slightly dramatic). I will start off by saying my skin is.. lets say difficult. A bitch if you will.

You know when you are searching for skincare online and you have to narrow it down by your 'skin concern' I select every one.

Oily/Acne - check, eczema - check, dehydration - check, redness - check. Okay you get the idea.

SO i need a foundation that will

1) have medium to full coverage
2) have a satin/semi-matte finish
3) not turn my t-zone into an oily-mess after a 10 hour day in the office
4) glide over dry patches
5) I must not be allergic to it!!
6) MATCH MY FACE -actually so hard to get right

Here are my 'You came pretty close but you're just not quite right' foundations. If anyone has any recommendations for me please comment below :)

First up is L'OrĂ©al Paris Infallible Foundation . I have the shade Porcelain. This looks absolutely beautiful when first applied. It evens out my skin tone, conceals blemishes and has a nice glowy finish. It glides over my dry patches and feels very comfortable on the skin and it looks lovely for the first few hours. Sadly it doesn't quite live up to it's claim that it lasts 16 hours.  After around the 5 hour mark I start to look a little shiny - not super oily, just shiny. I just look like a very sweaty woman after a day at work in this foundation which isn't ideal. Haha. This foundation is reserved for lazy days or when I'm not too fussed about my foundation lasting.

Next up is the La Roche Posay Toleriane Teint Fluid Foundation. I bought this on a whim when I was stocking up on products from my favourite skincare brand. This is without a doubt my favourite foundation when first applied. When i apply this my skin looks simply flawless and damn it i feel flawless with it on! (Calm self)  This foundation is designed for sensitive skin and it doesn't irritate my troublesome skin at all. I wish, wish wish it stayed looking so beautiful. Unfortunately this foundation makes me so oily and it just melts off my face. It is as if my face just rejects this foundation. I've tried everything - primers, powders, mattifying moisturizers, setting sprays; it just does not want to stay on my face! :( But I'm not giving up. I'm still determined to find a way of making it work. I will report back on my progress.

I mentioned the Max Factor All Day Flawless 3-in-1 Foundation in my January Favourites and there was that riveting debate over whether it is the same as Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous. (lol) This foundation is in a word gorgeous! It's full coverage and provides a matte but breathable finish. On more oily days this foundation is a dream. I'm just so pleased with this foundation but of course there has to be a downfall (SIGH). It does slightly cling to my dry patches. This isn't your fault foundation, it is just my awkward skin.

I was fully ready to accept my fate.. that there simply isn't a foundation in this world that works for me. Then this came into my life. It's the Liz Earle Signature foundation. I haven't had this for too long but my first impressions on the formula are.. It's love! This ticks NEARLY all the boxes for me - medium and build-able coverage, blends so easily, lasts beautifully on the skin. The only problem is the shade. I bought shade 2 Ivory and it is so so dark! I know, I know It's my daft fault for ordering online. What an amateur. I may have already ordered Shade 01 Porcelain. Hopefully it will be a perfect match!

I'll bid you farewell now and invite you to wish me luck in my foundation endeavors.

Byeeeee xxxx
